Dental Treatment in Turkey: FAQ for Irish Patients
Safety, “Turkey teeth”, costs versus Ireland, flights from Dublin, visas, warranty, aftercare and Med 2 tax relief — answered for patients in Ireland.
Dental treatment in Turkey is safe for Irish patients when the clinic is Ministry of Health authorised, the plan is conservative and someone is accountable after you fly home. DentalTrip is a dental travel agency founded in 2011: Dr. Metehan Doğan reviews every plan, partner clinics in Antalya and Istanbul are authorised, work carries a written lifetime warranty, and aftercare continues on WhatsApp in Irish hours.
Safety and quality
Is it safe to get dental treatment in Turkey from Ireland?
Yes, when the clinic is authorised by the Turkish Ministry of Health, the dentist is experienced and you are not over-treated. DentalTrip exists to guarantee all three: we have planned treatment for 1,000+ patients since 2011 with 100% satisfaction, every plan is reviewed by Dr. Metehan Doğan, and all ceramic and implant work carries a written lifetime warranty.
Why do Irish dentists warn about 'Turkey teeth'?
Because they see the failures: healthy teeth cut down for crowns, twenty crowns bonded in one block, rushed single-visit work. These are failures of clinic choice, not of Turkey. DentalTrip was built to protect Irish patients from exactly those clinics. We never treat teeth that do not need it and never join individual crowns.
How do you choose your partner clinics?
Ministry of Health International Health Tourism Authorisation, a fully digital workflow (intraoral scanning, CT-guided implants), an in-house or dedicated lab, sterilisation tracking, and dentists who have worked with Dr. Metehan Doğan for years. Fewer than one in ten clinics we review are accepted.
Who is Dr. Metehan Doğan?
Dr. Metehan Doğan is DentalTrip's Chief Dentist. He leads the clinical team at our Antalya partner clinic, reviews every Irish patient's treatment plan and specialises in implant and prosthetic dentistry, including All-on-4, All-on-6, E-max veneers and zirconia crowns.
What certifications do you hold?
Our partner clinics hold the Turkish Ministry of Health International Health Tourism Authorisation Certificate, and DentalTrip operates as an authorised health tourism intermediary (USHAŞ) with a licensed travel agency partner for flights, hotels and transfers.
Cost and payment
How much can I save on dental treatment in Turkey compared to Ireland?
Typically 60–75% on the treatment itself. A single implant with crown is from €650 with DentalTrip versus €2,500–€4,000 in Ireland; All-on-4 from €4,900 per arch versus €12,000–€25,000; E-max veneers from €290 per tooth versus €900–€1,400. Flights from Dublin and a 4-star hotel for a week add roughly €600–€1,000.
Are there hidden costs?
No. Your written plan itemises every tooth and procedure, including any bone grafting, sedation or night guard. Transfers, consultation, X-rays, CT scan and digital design are included. The only extras are your flights and hotel, which we quote clearly or book for you.
How do I pay?
A small deposit secures your dates; the balance is paid at the clinic by card or bank transfer in EUR after your examination confirms the plan. Nothing is charged before you have seen the clinic and met your dentist.
Can I claim Irish tax relief (Med 2) on treatment in Turkey?
Irish Revenue allows 20% relief on non-routine dental treatment such as implants, crowns and veneers, including treatment abroad, where the practitioner is a qualifying dentist. We provide a completed Med 2 form. Eligibility depends on your circumstances; please confirm with Revenue or your accountant. This is not tax advice.
Travel and planning
Do you really plan everything from Ireland?
Yes. Your free consultation, digital smile design, written quote, flights, hotel and transfers are all arranged before you leave Ireland. We work in Irish hours on WhatsApp, phone and video, and can meet you in Dublin by appointment.
How long do I need to stay in Turkey?
Veneers, crowns and smile makeovers take one visit of 5–7 days. Implants take two visits: 3–5 days for placement and 5–7 days for the final teeth, three to four months apart. All-on-4 and All-on-6 follow the same two-visit pattern with fixed temporary teeth in between.
Are there direct flights from Dublin?
Yes. SunExpress flies direct Dublin–Antalya in 4h 55m (up to five times a week, late March to late October). Turkish Airlines flies direct Dublin–Istanbul in 4h 25m daily, year-round.
Do I need a visa for Turkey?
Irish passport holders do not need a visa for tourist stays of up to 90 days. Your passport should be valid for at least 150 days from arrival.
Can someone travel with me?
Of course. Companions are welcome at the clinic and the hotel, and transfers are for you both. Many patients make it a couple's or family holiday.
Where will I stay?
In a 4- or 5-star hotel within 15 minutes of the clinic, chosen with you. In Antalya most patients stay in Lara or Konyaaltı; in Istanbul in Şişli, Nişantaşı or Taksim.
Treatment and aftercare
What does the lifetime warranty cover?
Fracture or debonding of crowns, veneers and bridges, and failure of implants, under normal use for life, provided you attend an annual check-up and hygiene visit with us or your dentist in Ireland. Trauma, neglect and new decay are excluded, as with any dental warranty.
Will my dentist in Ireland look after my teeth afterwards?
Yes. We give every patient a treatment passport listing each tooth, material, implant brand and cement used, plus X-rays and scans, so any Irish dentist can maintain your work. We also stay available on WhatsApp for life.
Will it hurt?
Treatment is carried out under local anaesthetic, with sedation available for anxious patients and longer implant surgeries. Mild soreness for a few days after implants is normal and managed with ordinary painkillers. Veneer and crown preparation is usually pain-free.
What happens if something goes wrong when I am home?
Message us on WhatsApp and send a photo; Dr. Metehan Doğan's team responds in Irish hours. Minor adjustments can be done by your Irish dentist and reimbursed under our warranty terms; anything structural is repaired at our clinic with travel assistance under the lifetime warranty.
Can I eat normally after treatment?
After veneers and crowns, yes from the next day, avoiding very hard foods for a week. After implant surgery, soft food for 7–10 days. After All-on-4/6, soft food for the first weeks while the implants heal.
